Shake, Rithum and Roll

The V Spot eComm Nearly News

Welcome to the V spot, your home for the ecomm nearly news. This week Rithum decided that 4 years of anti marketing was not good marketing and let the world know they are a big deal - 2.4 Billion transactions per day. The also disassociated themselves with songs such as Rhythm is gonna get you, slave to the rhythm and rhythm is a dancer. Suggestions amongst the team were now that they are at an age where dancing to these songs could really damage a hip or a knee - things that do not age well. Also in economics 101, I learned it is £13.90 for a large Malbec around the Liverpool street area of

London. Let’s do the news.

Story 1. First up Harry’s coming up smelling of roses. Once darling DTC disruptor Harrys has now taken its place in mainstream consumer culture launching a “permanent entry” into the fragrance category with 3 new fragrances this week. Named like props from Anchorman, the 1.7 fl oz bottles are retailing at the very affordable $35. So your weekend date choices - a $15 glass of wine or a $35 bottle of after shave. I wonder which garners better results. I would place my money on red.

Story 2. Next Bed, Bath and Beyond prove once more they just love column inches. Not content with being a quiet retailing brand for more than 3 weeks at a time, they announced their new franchise opportunity. An insider told us, we think we are being really smart - while everybody else is taking out complexity, we are adding shitloads more back in. Yeah, we are a zig left when everyone zags right kind company and we love it. He then proceeded to drink his new Harry’s Cologne.

Story 3. Remember Dominios? That’;s what we are going to be saying in a few years after the new Dominos rebrand including the invention of something they called the Cravemark. It was at this point that I tuned out.

Story 5. Rithum yesterday hosted their Rithum live roadshow in London and in a move that surprised many people they had a so called AI expert who had, wait for it, more than 3 years experience. This is pre ChatGPT folks, do they not know when AI started? Who is this dinosaur. He left me with this brainworm. Better insights does not equal better decisions. AI has a human problem.

More in the pod ...

Finally this week Hooters are still in a fist fight to bring the brand back to the masses. Leading the charge is CEO Neil Kiefer who is trying to bring Hooters back to its good old fashion values and away from the sex appeal side of private equity. A sentence no one ever thought they would say - we all have our knockers I guess.

We’re buzzing to keep rolling with our sponsor, Omnisend— the email platform that’s officially Vinny-Proof. No needless jargon, no alphabet soup of nonsense. Just one acronym that matters: ROI. Because merchants are making $68 for every $1 spent on email.

If you’ve got half a clue, you’ll be making money by lunchtime.

Thats the 6 minutes you are not getting back this week.
